Robert Colson is a partner and a founding member of Teplitsky, Colson LLP. Mr. Colson was called to the Ontario Bar in 1979 and has been certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Civil Litigation since 1997. He obtained his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1977.

Mr. Colson's commercial litigation and dispute resolution practice includes the resolution of complex employment claims for senior executives and people in the financial services industry. In addition to acting on employment matters, he regularly provides counsel for clients and acts in other matters, including shareholder and partnership disputes, land-related litigation, breach of contract claims, oppression remedy cases and professional negligence claims, amongst others.

Mr. Colson has appeared in all levels of court in Ontario and before administrative tribunals. Mr. Colson has also served as an arbitrator and mediator for the Government of Ontario in connection with disputes between teachers and school boards under collective agreements.

Notably, Mr. Colson was lead counsel for the plaintiff in Schumacher v. Toronto Dominion Bank and is responsible for the landmark decision which, at the time, was the largest ever awarded to a wrongfully dismissed employee in Canada. The trial result was appealed by the bank to the Ontario Court of Appeal and the bank's appeal was unanimously dismissed. The bank then sought leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada without success, with the result that the precedent-setting trial verdict which Mr. Colson obtained was held.

In addition to maintaining a busy and successful practice, Mr. Colson has also served the profession in the province of Ontario. He has taught at York University and in the Ontario Bar Admission Course and has presented papers at continuing legal education events sponsored by both the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Advocates' Society.
